just as a note, the insult p*ssy is actually just short for pusillanimous which means timid, not female genitalia
but yes, a personal censor would deffo be the best thing
as for sexually coded slurs i’m personally eh about about words like sl*t and wh*re
i mean someone has the word ‘thot’ in their username (im not attacking them or anything, just pointing this out) and ho isn’t censored so

but i just wanted to add that we really are not attacking anyone who is uncomfortable with any of the words being discussed here, since a person’s viewpoint on a word is due to their own experiences and exposure to it which obviously varies from person to person. i mean i’m iffy about words like dick and cock but they’ve been so ‘normalised’ that i’ve gotten used to it. but that just goes to show that ‘male’ or phallic words are far more normalised so why can’t ‘female’ yonic words be normalised too? all we’re saying is that the censorship of words like p*ssy and even sl*t and wh*re has been because of sexism and the patriarchal view of women. it’s sexist to widely censor these words and force censorship of them, as it’s just pushing a view that these words are vulgar and taboo and contributing to and continuing this cycle. if you personally want to censor it yourself because you feel uncomfortable with the word for personal reasons that’s completely fine.

here was our response to that , btw, @demistress

since that's up there. I sent our response to asyli but I don't know if they ever got it to the people who contributed to your paper.

I'm going into dress rehearsals tomorrow and then into the show so I may not be here to work on this until after that. But please everyone keep things civil, I'm not the only staffer obviously. and I'll do my best to get on when I can but today was my last free day before the show is over unless our tuesday tech is cancelled for weather.

also yeah just. like to get it out there i agree that the ideal would be a persona lcensor.

the sitewide censor is what we have in lieu of that but ik there are a lot of problems with it and a persona lcensor iss what I'd prefer. IT's just that getting it will take time and money. I'm putting a request for the mod into the smf site tonight.

oh, yeah, i saw it!! i’m just posting it here so everyone else could see it and maybe agree on it

Honestly, I feel like a sitewide censor list is never going to make people happy simply because it's got those words (such as the four-letter s- and c- words) in it that people use a lot jokingly or in RP. I feel like, in order to appease everyone, a personal word censor for each member would have to be implemented. The fact that there is a word censor that was put in place without consulting the general public in the first place makes me feel weird talking about it, anyway, but... yeah. A personal censor for each member would probably work best.

I also feel like the p-word shouldn't be censored at all, seeing as it is just a general insult, and doesn't actually refer to genitalia when most people use it.

Helping Hub / Re: describing skin colour?
« on: February 01, 2018, 09:05:03 AM »
hhh i've read a lot of books where they compare darker skinned people to a night sky and a pure ebony tone, so i wouldn't personally? mind it? and this is coming from a mixed person, but i feel like comparing skin color to something like chocolate is. acceptable. since people know what chocolate look like and it gives a ~sensual~ feel to the text, like it's trying to seduce you or smthn, and that might just be a selective artistic choice but whatevs. i mean, for the most part, some of my light-skinned characters are compared to those porcelain china dolls.

i think you should try whatever you feel like works with the way you, yourself, write. while it's good to ask for opinions and everything, i don't think you should put too much thought into input and offending others, because in the end it's YOUR writing and YOU'RE the only one that should be comfortable with it.

+ again with the artistic choice stuff - comparing skin colors imo to other stuff, even stuff we eat, is super okay when it has symbolism. for example, if i or someone else writes something like this:

"He was a tall man, broad of shoulder with skin so dark that it could rival a clear night's sky. His eyes were like twin stars, his grin blindingly white, and she thought he was the handsomest man in the world in those moments, and she knew he thought the same of her, too. He told her at every chance he had that every inch of her was as fine as china and her skin porcelain, two rosy dots on her cheeks and eyes framed by delicate lashes to complete the look of a doll."
