Title: The Prince and the Outlaw(Private for Sultan)
Post by: Hopes~Wings on March 16, 2017, 09:11:04 PM
It was a rather warm day for fall. The leaves in the trees were changing from green to reds, yellows, browns, and oranges. The grass was withering, turning brown as well. However, the sky was clear, not a cloud in sight. It was the perfect day for hunting in the forest.

Creeping along, Rowan Hood was on high alert, her bow drawn. Her brother had challenged her to bring back a deer, and she was determined to win. He was always teasing her, and she took every chance she had to out shine her older brother.

Hearing a twig snap, she drew an arrow and advanced towards the sound. Excitement coursed through her. If she managed to bring this deer down, it would be her first successful solo hunt. She wanted to make her father proud.

Moving closer, Rowan made sure to remain hidden. To be spotted down would mean to lose the deer. But when she spotted her prey, it wasn't what she was expecting. Standing there was a young boy, looking to be about ten years of age like herself. There was a bow on his back, but he didn't seem interested in hunting. He wore garments only the rich could afford.

Narrowing her eyes, Rowan stepped out of her hiding spot. "Who are you?" she demanded, her bow drawn to fire. The boy whirled around to face her.

Take it from here sultan!

there was absolutely nothing the boy hated than being in the vicinity of his father and the palace grounds. don't get him wrong - he loved being wealthy, especially when it came with croissants. but he could never wash away the odd feelings of guilt and hatred towards his notorious folk.

he didn't mind the executions - most of them seemed to deserve it - but the sheriff's very personality put him off ever so slightly. he was snobbish, arrogant, rude, insolent, childish, and stupid, and he hated him to the greatest degree.

tadeas decierdo tended to receive a lot of attention -- his parents, village belles, etcetera, etcetera, but he made sure to be humble about it. he was naturally quite reserved, and didn't speak unless spoken to (this trait naturally developed because of the fear bred since his younger years). he rarely ventured out of the castle, and the one time he did was the one he would regret.

"who are you?"

his heart stopped, and at the moment, he almost thought it better to die on the spot than to turn around.

"nobody."

/sorry this took so long!

Its fine. And forgive me if this is crappy. I'm on my phone

Rowan narrowed hef eyes, uneasy about this stranger. "You are someone. Now answer the question who." She demanded. Even as she spoke she was checking him over by eye to make sure he carried no weapons. She would rather not fight. Thankfully, she spotted none.

/it's fine! and sorry this took so long again ):

tadeas cocked an eyebrow. "if you must know.." he muttered, a ghost of a smirk twisted across his features. "i live over there." he gestured behind her, not necessarily expecting her to follow. "in the worst place you could ever imagine."

it wasn't an exaggeration at all. he truly did despise living there and would continue to do so for the rest of his life.

"i'm tadeas. son of the sheriff." he declared after a while.

"now it's my turn to ask." it was only polite to, after all. "who are you?" and why did she seem so defensive? she wasn't some sort of wild animal to defend her territory, was she? the forest belonged to everyone, and everyone belonged to the forest.

but maybe he could make a new friend. he was bored and lonely - maybe they could play a game. she was holding something -- possibly with that?

"what's your name?"

So sorry I haven't answered! I got a new phone, and I haven't transferred my email to my new phone yet, so I never got the email that you had replied!

Rowan was quiet for a long time. So, this was the fearsome son of the man who had killed so many of her family. Did she trust him? Not really. But, she deserved to tell him her name. He had told her his.

"I am Rowan." she tells him, lowering her bow. She walked over to him, and stood to where they could actually see one another. Rowan was shorter and thinner than him. Her skin was darker, kissed by the sun it appeared. Her hair was a rich brown red color, and was braided down her back. Her eyes were dew shaped, and watery blue. She smiled at him.

"What are you doing out in the forest Tadeas if you live in town?" she questioned him, tilting her head slightly to the side. She was a curious person. She couldn't help it.

/aCK SORRY I DIDN'T ANSWER FOR LIKE 400 YRS

He found himself taking a step back when she approached him. Rowan. He gave her a small nod of acknowledgement, but was caught off guard by the smile that ensued.

What are you doing out in the forest Tadeas if you live in town?

He wasn't sure how to answer.

"I got bored. There's nothing to do over there. No one to play with, either. Everyone's boring." It wasn't completely a lie -- as a matter of fact, not one at all. He really was bored. And if this meeting worked out for the better, maybe he wouldn't be anymore.

"What are you doing out here?" By her clothes and demeanor, it seemed obvious. But he had to make sure.

He ended up answering the question for her. "Is this..is this your home?" he grinned. "You live with Robin Hood or something?"

You're fine.

Rowan smiled faintly. "Yes, this is my home. And yes, I live with Robin Hood." she told him. He didn't seem like a threat at all; just a scared boy. She turned and began walking away from him slowly. "Want a look around?" she offered him over her shoulder. She paused, waiting to hear his answer.

Rowan suddenly turned around, facing him once more. "Just, promise me you won't tell anyone?" she asked him, concern in her gaze. Robin Hood had forbidden her from telling anyone who she was, or bringing anyone into the forest. Now she was about to break both of the rules. But it seemed worth it to have a friend.

He had been joking. At least he thought he was. "Robin Hood -- I really didn't mean that as a -- but, you do? You really do?" She wasn't being sarcastic, he didn't think. She didn't seem like that kind of type.

Want a look around?

That was precisely what he wanted. Tadeas hadn't had a look around since his father's quaint lashing the other day. He would quite love a look around. "Yeah." he nodded, stuffing his hands in his pockets.

He was a little confused, though. Who was she, and why the heck was she letting him have a look around?

Just, promise me you won't tell anyone?

About what? Letting him have a look around, or the whole shenanigan about Robin Hood? "Cross my heart and kiss my elbow." He wouldn't tell a soul if his life depended on it. He knew his dad was out to kill Mister Hood, but he never thought he was real.

"Can you let me have a look around now?"

Rowan grinned and nods. "Let's get going. It'll be dark soon and I'll have to lead you out before then." she said. She then took off at a run, glancing back behind her every so often to make sure he was keeping up. She lead him deep into the forest. In the distance, a faint roaring could be heard. It sounded like a waterfall.

"I'm going to show you the waterfall first. We fish here a lot." Rowan told him over her shoulder. She slowed as the roaring grew louder until she was walking. She grinned at him before leading the way between two rocks.

The rocks opened up to reveal a large pound. It was surrounded by the rock wall, and across from the entrance was a small waterfall. It sprayed a light mist as the water fell, creating a rainbow. The grass was a bright green, and short. There was only one tree. It was beside the waterfall, and was an ancient willow.

"I love it here." Rowan told him as she made her way down to the water's edge. She sat down on one of the flat rocks, and looked back at him. "Come sit beside me. We can talk for a moment then I'll show you some more." she told him.

tadeas stared at the landscape, mouth agape with awe. he never saw anything of the sort in boring land.

come sit beside me. we can talk for a moment then i'll show you some more.

she was being strangely nice to him after shoving a stick in his face. "yeah, okay." he obeyed anyway. he didn't want another stick being shoved in his face. those things just weren't pleasant.

tadeas glanced up at the dimming sky. "i can't believe you guys actually live here. y'know what? i thought your dad was a myth. like -- my dad wants to kill him, but i thought he was like, koo koo or something."

his dad was koo koo about a lot of things - especially robin hood. he couldn't get enough of that guy. robin hood this! robin hood that! at least he should've been kind enough to invite him for dinner someday. maybe they could kill each other peacefully.

"what else do you have here? do you have other things here?" he couldn't imagine anything else being here, really. oh - except robin hood. he would love to see him.

"Our land is huge. It would take days to show you everything." Rowan said, pride in her voice. She then gazed at the waterfall, thoughtful. "What's it like where you are from? You know, living in the town?" she asked him.

Rowan had never been allowed in the town, or anywhere near it for that matter. Robin Hood had warned her, and forbidden her, several times over about going near it. He said it was far too dangerous for her. But she lived in the woods, where anything could kill you at any moment. Surely the town be that bad?

Rowan looked back at him, waiting for his answer. There was an opened, curious look on her face. She truly did want to know.

tadeas spat at the question and didn't respond for a while. "it's okay." he said a matter-of-factly. "we don't have too much to do over there. well - i don't. dad kills people for a living, i think." as he narrated the story of his hometown, he saw he was making up a lot more than he realized. he didn't know much about nottingham at all, did he? just that..he ate a lot of croissants, and that all the girls liked him.

"it's boring. it really is." after a few seconds of silence, he turned to her suddenly. "my dad hates your dad. he says that he's the reason why uh, why..he like, doesn't have as much gold, or something."

he couldn't imagine what rowan was thinking, because he didn't comprehend the gravity of the situation until much later.

"it's getting a little late, i think. my dad will be really mad at me when i get home." best not to go home at all. no -- then he'd send people to look for him. nah, that was boring. he might as well just go home and be smacked a little and then be let off to bed.

"it was nice talking with you..rowan. i hope i can see you again some time."

Rowan had listened to him, but hadn't said a word. She was thinking about what he said. Hearing him talk about her father, she hid a smirk. However, she didn't comment on that matter either. Hearing him say he had to go, she stood up.

"It was nice talking to you too. And I'm sure we'll talk again. Come on, I'll walk you to the edge of the forest." She offered with a smile. She wasn't quiet ready to let go of her new friend. She and her brother were the only children in the group, and her brother never played with her. He was too busy learning

/dude, sorry for the huge wait ):

"yeah, okay." tadeas nodded, following as she led him through the darkening woods. "i wish i could stay longer, i really do." he murmured, knowing well that he didn't. for one, he didn't want to endure a lashing from his dad. and two, this place gave him the chills. how was someone supposed to live here, actually?

they eventually began wandering for a while, and tadeas' trust in his new friend was beginning to wane. was she leading him into a trap? what if she belonged to a family of cannibals, and she only said that robin hood was her father to get his attention? wait, was robin hood a cannibal?

"uh...rowan, i think we passed this tree twice."

no, he was just being paranoid. she would never do that. save a year or two, she was probably his age. she didn't have the guts to do anything like that to him, did she?

but who knows? these aloof, forest types seemed to be a bit wild. ugh, he shouldn't have left at all. curse his pettiness and boredom with society. at least living in such a boring heaven wouldn't get him killed.

(You're fine.)

Rowen noticed he was growing nervous. Hearing him say they had passed the same tree twice, she smirked. "Dude, trust me, it's not. Most trees look alike unless you live within them everyday like I have. Why do you think people get lost so much?" she inquired of him as she kept walking. She suddenly stopped as the trees thinned. She nods to a narrow, dirt trail a little ways ahead of them. "That's the road back into town. Just head that way along it, and you should get to town within an half hour." she tells him, pointing in a direction. She then looked at him, smiling. "I enjoyed talking to you. Come visit the woods again. I'll show you the caves next time." She then turns, and starts to head back into the forest. She was forbidden to ever leave the tree line, and that was one rule she wasn't going to break. Robin would kill her for that one.

"..yeah, okay." he murmured long after she had left. rowan, huh? a little scary, but kind of interesting. he would come back if he didn't die.

perhaps that should be a motto he would live by -- he would come back if he didn't die. wow; he was inspired.

tadeas took his time in walking back to the castle. it was surprising that no one was out and about looking for him, but he wasn't complaining. that meant that his father wasn't waiting for him, right?

but as he soon found out when he arrived in his chambers, that wasn't the case.

"tadeas!" his father's roar emanated throughout the castle.
he jumped a little, but tried to remain calm. "father."
"where have you been?!"
"..on a walk." he wasn't lying.
"of course - for the entire day?"
maybe if tadeas crawled into his bed and fell asleep he would leave.
"i asked you something!"
"i'm sorry father, it won't happen next time."
"of course it won't. there won't be a next time." with that, the sheriff of nottingham finally left.

tadeas puffed up his pillow and pulled himself into his covers. his father always said that.

I'll have Rowan walk into camp, and ,if you don't mind playing Robin, him question her and then reveal that he knew the entire time because let's face it, Robin is going to know when there's been someone in his woods.

Rowan had decided against her better judgement, and remained away from camp a bit longer. She was already going to be late, so she figured a few more minutes wouldn't hurt anything. She had followed Tadeas, keeping out of sight among the trees. She wanted to make sure he had reached the village without trouble. Once he was safely out of sight among the houses, she turned back. "Home here I go." she muttered to herself. As quickly and quietly as she could, she made her way back to the place she called home. It wasn't much of a place. Just a somewhat opened area beside a stone wall and a small pond. But offered protection, and that was a lot coming from the forest.

Entering the area, Rowan was relieved to see that the men hadn't waited up on her, they had no reason to, and everyone except the watchmen seemed to be asleep. Hoping to go unnoticed, she made her way to the wall. There was a little cave-like opening in it where she slept. Before she reached it however, someone called her name. Rowan turned, gulping. Her father had waited for her to return.

robin hood stopped rowan when she was one step away from a good night's sleep. his trademark aloof, nonchalant behavior was nowhere to be seen.

"come here," he instructed, but approached her instead. he inhaled as if to speak, but ended up staring down at her for a very long time. "where were you?" his tone did not hint at his fury; instead, it was calm and collected, and it almost sounded that he was only asking her out of curiosity.

and he was, really. he could never be furious with his daughter - just a little cross.

"i thought of coming out to look for you, but i felt it would've be more interesting if you came back and told me everything yourself." robin hood crossed his arms and lowered himself onto a boulder. "go on, speak up."

he began to wonder if rowan would tell the truth. though she wasn't one to lie, he had a feeling that she would. and of course, he and his dead mother would see right through it. whenever rowan did tell a lie, her face would turn a bright red and she would stammer like mad. he nearly chuckled at the thought. he actually began to hope that she'd lie. it'd give him a good laugh.

Rowan's eyes had filled with fear when he had gazed at her without speaking for so long. Hearing him, the fear turned to terror. Of course he would have waited for her to return and not come looking himself. She almost wished he had. At least he wouldn't murder her in front of a stranger. Now, she wasn't so sure he wouldn't. She meet his gaze for as long as she could, but finally looked away. She couldn't take its intensity.

She was quiet for a split second before the lie tumbled out of her lips. "I was exploring the forest and lost track of time." It was a lame lie, but at least it had a partial truth to it. She had been exploring the forest, and she had lost track of time. But she left out the part that she had been exploring it with a stranger. A stranger from the village. The village that Robin Hood despised. Somehow, she sensed he knew she was lying. Of course he knew she was. But she had to at least try and keep out of trouble.

"mhmm.." he cocked a brow and waited for rowan to elaborate, but realized that she had accepted defeat a long time ago. "what's more to explore? i've taken you to every nook and cranny of this place. won't you be getting bored?" quite the contrary - robin hood would liked to have been able to declare that he knew sherwood forest like the back of his hand, but he didn't. the place was huge - he wouldn't be able to explore the entire thing in one lifetime. and as for being bored? never. roaming around aimlessly was his favorite pastime.

"did you fall asleep? meet someone?" god, this was fun. he loved scaring the wits out of her - she looked so precious. "you left in the morning - one just doesn't..lose track of time." of course they could. anyone could.

"but never mind that. you must be hungry - go and eat something." he gestured towards the pile of food near the burnt-out fireplace. "and be quiet. everyone's asleep." under his orders, they were. all of them were walking around, pulling their hair out in worry for this girl. it was beginning to annoy him, so he sent them off to bed.

This might be bad because I am mobile but I will do my best

Rowan had kept quiet throughout his scorn. She knew that he hadn't taken her everywhere; he himself hadn't been everywhere. But, she kept her mouth shut. This wasn't the time to start picking fights with him. She was lucky to still be standing at the moment.

Hearing him tell her to eat, she jerked her head up to stare at him. He knew. There was no way he didn't. So what game was he playing? He surely wasn't done with her yet. Nevertheless, she obeyed him and made her way over to the pile. Now that she thought about it, she was starving.

"How was Wolf's hunt today?" Rowan asked, keeping her focus on the pile rather than him. Wolf was Rowan's older by three years, and today he had gone hunting with Johnny Boy for the first time. Rowan hoped the question would take Robin's attention off of her

robin edged himself off the boulder and began to amble around aimlessly. "wolf?" he did fine. wonderful. he couldn't have been prouder. "he was alright. he still needs some work, but he's doing fine." he took off his cap and dusted it off a bit. "if you were here, i'd have taken you out, too." he wanted to laugh. it was funny, goddammit.

he took a seat next to rowan and motioned for her to take a piece. "wolf caught them and told me to give it all to you. eat up." he wasn't sure if wolf had said that, but it sounded like something he would've. the two were inseparable. it was good that rowan had gone out today, or he would've never been able to take the boy out for a hunt. wolf was so protective over his sister that he might as well adopt her himself.

"rowan," he drew his knees to his chest and turned towards her. "listen, sweet, i--" he had to say the truth. he had been blabbering out nothing but nonsense this entire time and it was beginning to get to him. "please tell me where you went today. i won't get mad, or do anything like that, okay? i promise. i just want to know where you went."

Rowan was quiet the entire time. She had been picking through the pieces, trying to find one that she really wanted. Finding only two pieces, she took them before sitting down. She looked at Robin when he turned to her.

He wouldn't be mad? Yes he would. But she needed to tell him. He would find out eventually anyway, and she would rather him hear it from her than someone else. Better to get it done now then later.

"I followed the road to the edge of the village. And yes I remained in the trees. No one saw me, I promise. I just... you and the other men talk about it all the time. But never once have any of you allowed me anywhere near it. I just wanted to see it one time."

robin froze. she did -- she did what? "ro--" he cut himself off and nodded - a vain attempt to conceal his shock. he supposed that she would've had to slip out of his reach eventually. "you--" he tried to begin again, but couldn't. his rowan -- his rowan had those kinds of guts? never in his wildest dreams could he have imagined that.

"..if you say so, dear. but --" he grimaced, as if his next words would cause him a great amount of discomfort. "..why, exactly.."

there was nothing too interesting about the village. it was dark, stupid, and dull -- nothing of that sort would interest her. but still, he kept talking about it - preaching that he "stole from the rich and gave to the poor" - so naturally, anyone would be curious.

but..still, why?

"..alright. how did you like it, then? the edge of the village, and all? was it fun?" of course it wasn't fun. why would it be fun? there was nothing damn fun about that place at all. some horrendous sheriff and his pompous people. some dark, stupid, dull, un-funny little place.

Rowan was rather surprised by his reaction. She had expected him to be angry. She couldn't even count the number of times he had warned her to stay away from the village. Instead of anger however, she only defected shock.

Rowan listened to him stutter a moment before asking her if it was fun. At that, she snorted. "I couldn't bare to live in such a confide place. There's barely any room between the houses, and no sign of trees or anything anywhere. I don't see the apply. The forest offers more protection than it. "

What Rowan said was true. She knew she could never live a life there. It would slowly kill her. But she couldn't deny she was curious. What was that place like? What were the people like there? And what was Tadeas' life like there?

it was almost as if she had rehearsed this beforehand. it was exactly what he wanted her to say, and somehow, exactly what he expected her to. "doesn't it? that place is," he paused to contemplate his next words. "that place.."

robin glanced off into no particular direction.

"it's a horrible, horrible place, the village." he faced rowan directly for the first time that night. "rowan, i don't want you going there again, alright? you may not understand me now, but please, please," he approached his daughter and dropped to his knees so he was at her level. "the worst experience i've had were at that horrible, horrible village. i don't want to risk you--" he bit his lip. "please don't go there again, rowan. i'm begging you, please."

all of a sudden, he felt submissive and weak. robin had managed to maintain his trademark demeanor the entire night, but as soon as rowan mentioned something he didn't expect, he couldn't help but break down. he didn't want any harm to come to her, no matter how much he made it seem otherwise.

Rowan was too stunned to react. She knew her father hadn't the village, but him begging her not to go there caught her off guard. She knew Robin had seen, done, horrible things. So what could have happened at the village? She wanted to know, but dare not ask. Robin would tell her when the time came.

As he dropped to his knees before her, Rowan took a startled step back. Never in her young life could she recall seeing her father this desperate. It broke her. She didn't like this side of her father. It made him seem exposed, weak, and weakness couldn't be shown in the world they lived in. Without thinking, Rowan wrapped her little arms around Robin Hood in a gentle, child hug. She nestled her head into the side of his neck.

"I won't go near the village again. I promise." Rowan whispered. She meant what she said. So long as her father asked her to, she would remain away from that curious place. Her loyalty was stronger than her curiosity. Even if it meant giving up a friend. Blood came before water.

(I was thinking we could skip ahead six years. Rowan and Tadeas would both be in their teens, and they could run into each other in the forest again)

/sorry this is so late! and sure, i'll do a timeskip

tadeas hadn't thought to go back into the woods after the time he had six years ago, but he often thought of rowan. he still didn't know where she was, who she was, but he wasn't particularly inclined to find out.

but today, when he was helping the servants with their outside chores, he felt drawn towards the unwelcoming thicket of shrubs that fenced his village.

"i'll be back. i have to..do something." he muttered, figuring that they weren't paying much attention to him anyway. tadeas parted the branches, pricking his fingers on a few thorns. he tried not to flinch as he stepped - stumbled - through them into a small clearing.

yeah, he wasn't expecting to see rowan right away, but he was disappointed. it was dark and musty, and when he thought of going back, he realized that he couldn't exit from where he came from.

god, what had he gotten himself into?

You're fine and thanks.

Rowan had spent the last six years truly learning what it meant to survive in the forest. After that day, Robin had decided that she was old enough to start learning. She hadn't stopped since.

In what little free time she had, she would find herself wondering about Tadeas. She couldn't help it; she thought they could have been friends. But, he had never returned to the forest. She had never returned to the village.

Currently, Rowan was hunting. She had been tasked with bringing down the deer that would feed them tonight. If she failed, they would go hungry.

Nearing the village, her luck paid out. Before her stood a doe large enough to feed everyone, and to have meat for the following days. Drawing her bow, she fired in one swift movement. The shot was clean, an instant kill. Only then were the footsteps heard. Curious, Rowan began to follow them. She stopped, stunned, when she found their owner. It was Tadeas, after all these years

speak of the devil. she was somewhat different - a little taller with more defined features - but otherwise unchanged. tadeas felt as if he had stepped into a scene he had experienced before.

what was he supposed to say now? "hi, rowan! nice to see you, how've things been keeping up? sorry i haven't visited in around 200 years, i was a bit occupied."

occupied with what? eating croissants? killing people? no, that sounded about right.

tadeas pursed his lips and clasped his hands behind his back. he had often daydreamed about ending up in such a situation, but never thought it would become a reality. truth be told, he didn't think he'd see rowan again.

but here he was. oh, how the world turned, didn't it? wait - was that the right phrase?

It's fine. It's Christmas time, and it's a busy time of year. Merry Christmas by the way!

Rowan gazed at him, her gaze unreadable and her face passive. She had never dared to imagine that she would ever see him again. He belong to the village, and she belong to the forest. It had been drilled into over and over again. She had even come to believe it herself.

"You shouldn't be here Tadeas. The forest is a dangerous place." she said after a minute, finding her voice. She was in shock even though she hid it. Tadeas had grown into a handsome young man. She could only imagine how his beauty would grow...what was she thinking? She was being foolish to drool over him.

Turning her back to him, her focus drifted back to the direction of her kill. "Can you find your way back to the village?" she asked. He hadn't been able to six years ago. She wanted to make sure he could now.

she didn't seem surprised, which was a bit disappointing. if cold and brooding was the look that they were going for, tadeas needed to ensure that his face wasn't betraying too much - which, admittedly, it was. after thinking he'd composed himself, he had really been staring at her in slack-jawed astonishment.

you shouldn't be here tadeas. the forest is a dangerous place.

yeah, of course it was. why was he here? how had he ended up outside, even? "i know." he nodded, heat flushing his ears. he'd probably been helping the attendants with their chores, because he had completed his village shopping (that consisted of smiling at one of the female storekeepers) a week ago.

"can you find your way back to the village?"

"yes," eager was she to get him out. "hopefully." he chuckled a little. "i just return the way i came. through those..bushes."

Rowan turned to face him, raising an eyebrow. "Through the bushes?" she repeated, not believing what she heard. Shaking her head, she couldn't stop herself from chuckling. "You remind me of a child Tadeas!" she teased him, a smile lightening her face. She couldn't deny it; she was drawn to him. It wasn't everyday she saw anyone her age. All of the men were older, and the ones closer to her age were too young. Shaking her head, she scolded herself mentally. She shouldn't be thinking like that.

"Come on. I'll show you back to the road. It's getting dark, and neither one of us need to be out once it is." Rowan offered. She waited for his response as she gathered her bow and her arrow from the deer. They were not far from the village road, and she knew she would have time to retrieve it. But what worried her was going near the village. she had sworn to Robin that she would keep away from it. All of these years she had. But now...

"yeah. okay." tadeas couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. after all, it had quite literally been years. but based on their behavior, neither of them really seemed to..register that. for that matter, the longer he stayed, the more this encounter was beginning to feel like a dream.

"so, he lets you near the village now?" he remembered that that had been an issue. but it had been a while. she could do what she wanted to, right?

still, it was probably better to play it safe. he didn't want to face the wrath of the great robin hood.

tadeas sighed. the name didn't have the same glamor as it did all those years ago.

"i'm serious. i could really go back myself."

Rowan bit the side of her lip, a nervous habit of hers. "Well...not exactly. Dad would be furious if he knew I went anywhere near the village. But what he doesn't know won't hurt him!" she said brightly, smiling. She clearly wasn't ready to part ways with him yet. It had been years since they had seen one another, and she was still rather fond of him.

Hearing him, she snorted. "I'm not leaving you to the wolves. I really don't mind getting you to the road. It's not far, and I could use a little walk before I go back to camp. The men are rowdier than ever, and the little ones no better," she said.

tadeas couldn't help but smile. it had been a while since he had seen rowan grin. when he first met her, he used to think that she didn't know how. with an arrow pointed at his face, she definitely appeared to be the stoic, intimidating type. but it was just the opposite; for that matter, the playful and mischievous robin hood turned out to be more frightening than her.

and tadeas admitted he thought from her to time to time. he had almost given up all hope on seeing her again, but now that they were in each other's presence again, he didn't want to leave.

he snorted. "wolves? c'mon, ro, you know they don't have a match on me," he said that jokingly, of course. both of them knew he wouldn't survive a night alone in this place. "and fine, if you insist. i ..really think i know the way back, but," he turned to her. "for you, i'll get lost a hundred times over."

that was bold. he didn't know why he did that.

"i didn't mean it in that way. it's just uh - been a long time, you know? we gotta catch up on some things."

Rowan was quiet for a moment, pondering over his words with a blank look on her face. Then she smiled once more, and punched his arm lightly as she walked over to him. "And for you, I would find you a hundred times," she said softly, her words meaning more than they said. She began walking, beckoning him to follow.

"It's strange how time has changed things," she mused softly as she walked along. She wasn't worried about paying too much attention. It was too early for predators to be about, and her feet knew the path without her guidance. "When we first meet, I would have never imagined things would be the way they are known. Father and the others fear that the villagers are becoming too curious about the forest, and they fear I'm becoming too curious about the village." When the last words left her lips, she cursed herself. She shouldn't have relieved that.

"Not that-" she sighed, giving up trying to explain. He had heard, and now she would have to face whatever he thought about it. Rowan cursed herself silently.

his brow furrowed a little. "don't apologize for yourself. it's not a crime to be curious." tadeas didn't blame rowan in the slightest. if he was in her place, he couldn't imagine not knowing anything but the forest. he was in the village every day; going a week without seeing the storekeepers sweeping their floors or horses getting dressed for daily outings would be completely abnormal.

"if your folks found out you went to the village, what would they do?" he didn't want to wait for an answer. once he thought of an idea, he was going to go through with it. "..rowan, you see what i'm suggesting, right?"

he wanted her to know. after he had spent an entire night in the forest, it was her turn.

Rowan stopped completely in her tracks. After a few seconds, she turned to face Tadeas. Her eyes were wide. "You do realize who my father is right? He would be beyond furious if I even dared to go to the outskirts of the village. He would never allow me out of his sights again," she exclaimed in a rush. She then added in a lower, softer voice, "But that doesn't mean I don't want to."

Without waiting for his answer, she resumed walking. "I would love to see the village, at least once in my life. But my father has an inhuman ability to know what is going on in the forest at all times, no matter where you are. He knew the moment I broke my arm climbing a tree when I was five. He wasn't even in the forest at the time. I just..." she sighed. "I don't want to get caught and him forbid me from every seeing you again."

rowan stuck to the rules, but all hope wasn't lost. even with her father's threats hanging over her head, she still wanted to go. it was just that..she couldn't.

until now, at least.

"i've stumbled in here at least twice now, rowan." he stared at the ground for a couple of seconds before looking her straight in the eye. "now it's your turn. come to the village with me, please," he held out a hand and mustered a small grin. "trust me. i'll get you in an out of there before you know it."

but right after, his smile faltered. "you deserve this. please, for you."

Rowan glanced from his outstretched hand to his face. There was deep longing in her eyes, but also deep fear. "What if someone sees me?" she whispered. She could not forget who she was; she herself was an outlaw, and her father was the most wanted outlaw in the land. If she was spotted, with Tadeas, she feared what would happen to him more so than what would happen to her. She could get out of trouble; she didn't live there.

She suddenly looked in the direction of the village, battling herself. "I really, really, want to, but I'm...." her voice trailed off before she whispered, "I'm scared Tadeas. Terrified really." She had never admitted to being afraid of anything but her father before. Even facing a bear on her own hadn't frightened like the thought of leaving the forest did. But oh how she wanted to.

"What if something happens to you?" she finally asked.

tadeas let his hand fall to his side. she was right. she was an outlaw, and he the son of the sheriff. if either of them were caught - together, at that - the consequences would be unimaginable. but still, something in him told him not to let this down.

"i know," he was scared too, but the excitement of the entire ordeal was overpowering. "but listen --"

"what if something happens to you?"

to him? his mouth pursed into a thin line. he didn't really think of that, which is why he assumed it didn't really matter. he could talk his way out of anything, especially with all his influence in the village. he got roses and breadsticks for free, for god's sake.

"don't worry about me, rowan. the only thing i need is your trust." he took out his hand again. "it'll be fun. you'll have the time of your life. then i'll bring you right back. all you have to do is trust me," he paused, really meeting her eyes for the first time since the start of their encounter. "please."

Rowan bit her lip nervously, gazing first at his hand then into his eyes. So much rested on that moment. She trusted Tadeas, trusted him dearly, but she wasn't sure he knew what he was asking. On the other hand, she wanted it just as much, if not more, than he did. Fighting back the arguments screaming in her mind, she took his hand.

"Fine, but only for a minute. I mean it," she whispered to him firmly, but she could no longer hid the delight in her voice. She was, finally, after all these years, going into the village. If it was only for a minute, that would be long enough to last her a lifetime. She knew the moment her father found out, all freedom she had would be gone. But, for Tadeas, for this, it was worth the price.

"If I get the slightest sign that someone is coming, I'm bolting for it. I mean it, Tadeas. Your father would kill me if he got his hands on me," she warned him. But not even she understood the full amount of danger they were in.

he knew that this was what he'd been longing for for a while now, but he was next to convinced that he'd never see her again. it was nice to daydream while picking daisies in the castle gardens, but now, it was a reality. rowan was next to him, and he next to her.

he skid to a stop, realizing that he had been running exceptionally fast.

"uh..you're right. i don't know how to get out of here."

after a while, the pair emerged into a large, bustling clearing. no one seemed to notice, but he had a feeling that it wasn't just because they were pressed against the bushes.

"welcome to nottingham, rowan."

Rowan was hunkered low in the bushes, gazing out with wide eyes. She was in awe of the place. It was simply, far simpler than the forest, but it had its own kind of beauty. She had never seen buildings up close before, and she was fansitated with them. However, she didn't dare to move from the bushes she hid in. That was being too bold.

"It's beautiful Tadeas. I never knew a place like this could be real," she whispered to him. She shifted over so she was closer to him. "Father always said the village was horrible, but I can't see how this place could be like that. I don't see how any place can be as bad as he's made it sound."

tadeas felt himself surge with pride. he was on the verge of replying with something cheesy, but instead kept mum and settled himself with a tighter grip on rowan's hand. he was glad that the admiration could finally go both ways (for the forest and the village, of course).

"it is, isn't it?" he glanced around the bustling main quarter and grinned. "c'mon. let's get to the good stuff."

he began to pull her over to one of the stalls. "have you ever eaten stuff like this before?" he asked, waving to the owner, then gesturing to the lavish array of pastries with his free hand.

(I like someone ratting them out or maybe a guard spotting them.)

"Tadeas!" Rowan hissed whispered. She suddenly looked like a scared deer, wide-eyed and fully alert. She forced a nervous smile to the stall owner. "I shouldn't be in the open like this," she whispered to Tadeas as soon as she was sure the owner could not hear. She glanced about for a moment before leaning closer to him.

"The guards, and most of the villagers, know about me and if not me my father. It's too dangerous for me to be out in the open like this. I have a bounty on my head," Rowan explained in a rush. She looked ready to bolt at any moment. She didn't say it out loud, but she also knew her father was going to kill her if he found out she was here, in the middle of town, in the open.

tadeas felt a twinge of guilt at her words. maybe this wasn't such a good idea. "rowan, i.."

at that moment, he spotted a few guards embark on their morning patrol. before he could be recognized, he whisked rowan away.

"well, we don't need to worry about that now, right?" of course they needed to worry about it now. god he was an idiot! "we're already here, and.." he paused, searching for something to say. "we'll make the most of it." tadeas gave her a smile. then dug around in his pocket for a pastry he took from the stall they just visited. "don't worry. i paid for it."

rowan's concerns were valid, though, so he needed to think of something quickly. "hey! i know someone in town who has great ..dresses. maybe we could disguise you?"

Rowan stared at him in silence for a moment. Then she shook her head. "I'm not wearing a dress. Besides, I don't have the money to pay for it, and you will look strange buying a dress. Let's just..." she sighed, not sure what they could do. She bit her lip as she glanced around once more. "Tadeas, I think I should just go back to the forest. It's too dangerous for us to be here."

Rowan suddenly gasped. A group of guards was heading their way, and there was nowhere for them to run. She looked at Tadeas, panic in her eyes. "Do something," she hissed.

"no, by dresses i mean.." tadeas sighed, running his free hand through his hair. "fine. i'm not getting you a dress. but follow me. stay here for a little longer, okay?" he looked into her eyes and pleaded. "just trust me. i'll get you out of here in no time. let's just..have a little fun first, okay?"

he bolted towards the alleyway, waiting for the pack of guards to pass. after he was sure they were out of sight, he dragged rowan inside the dress shop.

"hello ms. dickens! remember that time i saved your cat from a tree and helped you pick every single berry from your father's garden?"

ms. dickens surveyed the pair quizzically. "what do you need, tadeas?"

"a disguise. for the both of us." he said, trying to not let desperation lace his tone.

ms. dickens paused before relenting. "fine. give me a second."

after a while, she presented them with two large hats, suits, and long boots. "if this doesn't disguise you both, nothing will."

I've been out of town. Sorry for the late reply!

Rowan was clearly on edge. She kept glancing around, unable to relax. The smallest sounds made her jump. Once they were in the shop, she sat down and did not move. She glanced around, not sure about anything going on around her.

When Ms. Dickens returned with the 'disguises', Rowan wrinkled her nose. "Do you know how bad I would be teased for wearing something like that? I'll look silly Tadeas!" She suddenly crossed her arms, narrowing her eyes. "I don't think it'll work."
