JORDAN
—— IT'S BEEN A LONG COLD LONELY WINTER LITTLE DARLING, IT FEELS LIKE YEARS SINCE ITS BEEN HERE. HERE COMES THE SUN.
it was funny how it took an accident to happen to for her parents to show interest in her (even if it were very little interest). things seemed to be good after she woke up from being unconscious for two weeks. the two weeks were a dream in her head, taking her to a place where she was happy. evan made her happy. even if he wasn't real. she hadn't seen him since the car accident, sure she saw him when she was passed out but now that she was awake he wasn't around anymore. she knew he had feelings. she made him up, didn't she? jordan was sure she hurt his feelings dropping the bomb of him not being real like that.

her body was still sore from the accident. bruises and cuts littered her body and whenever she moved they stung. she was alive though - that was a good thing..... right? she wasn't so sure quite yet. maybe if she did slip away after the car accident things would've been better.

jordan sat at the dinner table, using the fork to push around the rest of the food that was on her plate. her parents were talking about work until they brought her into the conversation. "yeah?" she asked them lightly, blue eyes looking up. "we're thinking about inviting the stevens' over for dinner friday. it would be good for you to spend more time with hunter." hunter. his name left a bitter taste in her mouth, the taste only got stronger with what happened at the party. "but-" "- if you weren't so stubborn and just actually went out with him he wouldn't of had to go to those measures at the party."

jordan sat there, a numb feeling growing over her as she stared at her mother and father. after a few minutes their voices turned to white noise and she blinked a few times, trying to keep the tears down. "i'm going to bed." she said quietly before getting up and putting her dishes in the sink, ignoring her parents bickering at her about walking away. she took a deep breath as she walked upstairs and turned into her room, jumping slightly to see the familiar figure sitting on her bed.

EVAN
—— Don’t be, don’t be so cold Bones rust decay and mold Head first, it is what it is Youth lost kicks us to live
He'd been showing up in this house more and more as of late. It was odd, suddenly appearing when he could've sworn he'd been in his own room only a few moments before. It hadn't really mattered to him in the past - his friend had always distracted him before he had more time to think. But now that Evan knew why, there was absolutely nothing keeping him from thinking about it. And he couldn't stop now, not when he didn't even know if he was thinking it.

About two weeks before, Evan and his best (and definitely only) friend Jordan had gotten into a fight. Not the usual fight, where you sit and sulk for a few days and then return to that normal friendship, more like the kind where you suddenly question your reality and the intentions of said best friend. Because just before the other driver slammed into their vehicle, she'd slammed him with a metaphorical car of her own.

Of course he wasn't real. Of course he wasn't fuckin' real; that would make him normal. He was just some freaky, twisted, R-rated Foster's Home-type figment of a girl that was trying to ignore how fucked up her life was by making his even worse. Was he mad? He didn't know. Everything he'd felt... everything he'd ever felt was just her in some unconscious way, everything he was, everything he remembered.. He didn't even know if he was thinking individual thought.

Evan'd felt safer, not knowing. To think that he'd been causing his own problems, to not question why he couldn't remember much outside Jordan, to just... be innocent to it all. And then, of course, it'd broken down around him. Well, him, or Jordan? "Tyler Durden, in the flesh." His tone was dry, his voice slightly unsteady. The creaking of the door signaled his attention... or perhaps it was the fact that she'd entered the room. He could sense it, he almost felt it; the invisible pull drawing them closer. Evan did his best to ignore it. "It was starting to get boring. How was the war downstairs?" Scooting over and falling back onto the pillows, Evan tapped the empty spot on the bed. At least hearing about her parents could do something to distract him.

jordan's eyebrows pinched together as she stood there looking at evan. she held her breath - don't ask her why, she didn't know - she her eyes scanned over his face to catch onto what emotions could have been portrayed on it. a small huff of a chuckle was the thing that broke her from just standing there when he made the first comment. her blue eyes shut briefly as she chewed on the inside of her cheek lightly.

why was he so calm? why wasn't he screaming at her about everything? anybody else in her life would have by now. without putting any thought to it, her right hand reach up and rubbed the back of her neck. it was a nervous tick she had picked up ages ago. it happened so often it was almost as natural as breathing or blinking.

"it was starting to get boring. how was the war downstairs?" even though another huff left her lips, this time her eyebrows creased once more. her hand dropped to her side as she finally felt relaxed enough to walk over and settle down onto the bed beside him, eyes focusing on the ceiling as she tried to figure out the right words to say. the last words she said to him was her screaming that he wasn't real - how could she redeem herself now? it probably didn't matter. it was already out that the only friend she could get was someone who was technically forced to be her friend, so could she do any more damage?

"same as usual..." her voice trailed off some. "the only time they pay attention to me is when they either wanna blame me for something or talk about my 'future' with him. nothing much more to this story tonight, sorry to inform you." jordan played off the frustration with it as a subtle joke to try and lighten up the whole idea of it, though the expression on her face was still contorted into something exhausted of everything. she was never really good at hiding anything.

"i'm sorry." she mumbled softly after a few minutes of silence, blue eyes quickly looking over to him before back up to the ceiling.

There was a distinct tension between them. It'd been like that before this of course, there'd always been something between the two of them that kept them so close.. and yet so apart. A tension that Evan had tried to shrug off, a tension that was perhaps, made by living such an elaborate lie. Jordan had had the ability to tell him, at any time, and free him of... this. She could've led him into it slowly, she could've..

It was too late now. Evan had been snapped into reality, and that was that. He couldn't change it, he just had to.. continue. Keep going, because Jordan clearly needed him. If he was still here, if he could remember himself... Jordan needed him, and he could focus on that instead of everything else. What he felt towards Jordan meant nothing, he knew he'd do anything in his power to help her, no matter what happened. He was just.. a part of her brain, he supposed. He had to help.. himself. He didn't like that thought, Evan preferred his loyalty to Jordan to feel more like... him.

Her family stressed him out. He knew that, he'd seen... what he'd seen, and Evan knew enough that Jordan's family wasn't helping the whole situation. "I'm sorry, sunshine." Evan muttered, reaching out a hand and... not brushed, but nearly brushed her shoulder in what he tried to make a comforting gesture. "This whole thing is just... a mess. I wish.. maybe it would've been better if-" No. He shut his mouth before he finished the sentence. Was that thought his or Jordan's? The car accident had been hell. But those two weeks...

He was jealous and he didn't even know if he was really feeling jealousy. He couldn't even comfort her, and everyone else in the family could... and nobody would. He knew it, deep in his gut. Nobody else understood, just Jordan and him. He hated that, he hated how he was the only one. Evan wasn't even real, and he was a better friend to Jordan than everyone else.

"What do you wanna do? Just.. hang out for a bit? I'm sure I can kick your ass in Clue again." He needed to distract her, he needed to push her away from the war zone that was her real life. Evan was fake, but at least he was better than out there. So, he just needed to fake reality. That was all, that was all.

evan was always there for her. she was sure about that. even when she wasn't directly thinking about him, he always he showed up when she needed him. she wish she would've told him sooner. but if she didn't, she may not have gotten into that car accident. which is a good and bad thing. good... well because she wouldn't have gotten hurt from it. bad because she wouldn't have been in a coma and experienced those two weeks.

the two weeks had been probably the best two weeks of her life. it was peaceful. just her and evan. she didn't need to worry about her parents or hunter or anything about school. all she needed to focus on was him. she wasn't positive if it was her thinking that it would've been better if she stayed in a coma for longer than two weeks or if it was actually evan thinking that. she agreed with him though.

"bring it on, harkness." she said to him with a playful tone. she took a moment to get up again before she walked over to her closet and stood on the tips of her feet to grab the board game that was on the top shelf. "don't try and cheat this time." jordan said, a teasing tone to her voice as she raised an eyebrow. she slipped down onto the ground and crossed her legs, beginning to set up the game.

jordan knew he was trying to distract her. she'd play along though. she needed to right? she didn't like to hand people all of her emotional baggage. the same went for evan, even though he was apart of her.
