The rain pitter-pattered against the window to the dreary studio apartment. They were located in the heart of it all, the city bustling about below. New York City, or the big apple as the mortals called it casually, was full of life this very evening. A tall, dark figure stood in front of the large paned window and stared down at the streets below him. He reached his hand into his pocket and pulled out his phone. It was his prized possession, the love of his immortal life. He had everything on his phone. The figure scrolled through conversations before finding the group chat he was looking for. “The Gang”. It was basic but he didnt mind, its what they were, a gang. A gaggle of friends. An immortal mob. The list could go on and on. His thumb hovered over the text box as he thought about what exactly he would say to them all. Don't forget the party tonight, 666 Ichor Lane. You all better have costumes.
He sighed and clicked send, dropping his phone back in his pocket. A cool breeze fluttered through the open window, pressing itself against his bare chest. He was never one to wear shirts around the house. Plus its not like Seb minded. His abs flexed against the coldness and he turned away from the window, making his way back to his “bedroom” the large studio apartment had a loft to it that the boys separated into two rooms. There wasn't much space but he didnt mind. Glancing in the mirror, he paused.

Deep brown eyes stared back into Alexi's soul as he gazed into the looking glass. His light brown curls were seductively disheveled and his eyes had a devilish glint to them. Sometimes being the deity of love and beauty has its perks. Shaking his head, he walked off towards the loft, slowly climbing the staircase. Seb was still at work at this point in time so Alexi had full reign of the apartment. He picked up his phone, shuffling through his music before settling on Billie Eilish's “You Should See Me In A Crown”. As the song blasted throughout the place he dug through his dresser looking for an old costume to reuse.

Time skip

Once again staring into the mirror on the wall, the tall boy fixed his ivory half-mask and adjusted his suit. He was sure someone would recognize the infamous Phantom of the Opera. “Seb i hope you're almost ready! People will be arriving any minute now.” The apartment was donned with halloween decorations, fake spider webs covered the furniture and were strung from the large chandelier that hung in the center of the living space. Punch bowls were laid across the island in the kitchen, some spiked and some not. Flashing lights danced across the whole apartment to the beat of the music. Fog rolled across the floor. Alexi was proud of himself for putting something like this together in the short amount of time he had. The phantom practically floated across the loft and down the stairs, heading towards the large window he stood at earlier. Almost as if on cue, a knock sounded at the door to which of course he shouted, “come in!”

HARIS ARAULLO
Haris glared at the stack of papers in front of her. She loved her job, she did, but if her editor handed her another fluff piece to do she was going to shove it down his throat. She didn't become an journalist to write fluff pieces about the ducks in Central Park. She wanted to be able to travel and find the truth of things and then watch the chaos of the fall out. She thought it would give her a free pass to travel and talk to people. Apparently not. Why she hadn't found another job was beyond her. She could take up thievery, it was apart of her domain, but she didn't think it was a great idea. She didn't need anyone suspicious and asking questions about her sudden flux of income. She just wanted to go home and take a nice, hot shower, put on fluffy pjs--
Her phone buzzed beside her. She swiped the device open and didn't bother to hid the small grin that flickered to life on her features. She had forgotten it was Halloween. How, she had no idea. She'd been counting down since August. The work day seemed to drag on after that. She practically shoved Brenda from accounting down the stairs in her rush to leave. Haris couldn't find it in herself to feel bad about it, Brenda was awful. She microwaved fish for lunch every single day.
The city moved in a blur past her as she raced home. Buses and subways were too slow for her taste. Right now, she needed to move, she didn't care how many people she shoved into gutters. Haris loved this city, she really did. It was always moving, a center of information passed from one place to another. It was as if it was built specifically for her. She loved Olympus, she loved Greece, but New York never rested and neither did she. There's always something to do.
The door to her apartment closed with a loud slam behind her. Her shoulders rose in a cringe at the sudden obnoxious noise. It was like the thing was weighted, maybe she'd have someone take a look at it. She didn't need the whole building knowing when she came and went. The old woman across the hall was nosy enough, Haris didn't want to give her a reason to peep across the hall.
In record time, Haris was dressed and bounding down the fire escape. She paused as her feet touched the asphalt. Should she leave a bowl of candy out? But then she'd never see the bowl again. Did she even buy candy? She had no idea. With a dismissive shrug of her shoulders she made her way toward the party.

USHA KERES IDOWU
22 artist scorpio

Plastic crinkled under bare feet as the woman moved between her current canvas and the risen table she had dragged into her living room. Beside the mess of paints, brushes, water, and paper towels, a laptop sat open with a high quality image opened on its screen. The face that Usha glanced at from time to time was the green-skinned, ball-chinned main character of her childhood movie The Mask. Her subject was none other than her friend/kill target C.J.

It started with a simple request: "paint my face green." Sure it was simple to just slap some green paint all over his face and call it a day, but Usha was not gonna do some half-ass job. Halloween costumes were of utmost importance and needed to be executed in the best way possible, which was why she had applied a silicon chin and was currently painting it to blend with the rest of his face. She had figured she would probably go overboard, as she always does, so she had gotten herself ready beforehand so they could leave as soon as he was done. Maybe it was weird to paint someone's face while being nearly half-naked - being dressed as Kida was pretty damn scanty -  but she was too engrossed in her work to care.

A couple of minutes later, she pulled back to observe C.J's face and smirked, a tell-tale sign of her satisfaction with her job. She let the paintbrush drop from her hands onto the plastic-covered floor and also removed the make-shift plastic shawl from around C.J's clothes. "There ya go!" She hummed as she handed C.J a mirror. "Ya loo just like the dude himself. Now that'll be a hundred, thanks." Of course, she was joking, but Usha didn't make it obvious with her serious tone. Turning her back, she cleaned up what she felt like doing at the moment before picking her laptop off of the table.

Now what if he actually gives you a hundred dollars? Looking down, she saw Ayotunde at her feet, staring up at her with chocolate brown eyes. Hearing him telepathically, she smiled as she knelt quickly to rub the fennec fox's head before winking at him. "Then guess who's getting those really expensive bugs that you like so much?" She replied aloud. The fox seemed to mull over the bribe and eventually relented in the form of a small huff and walking away.

From somewhere in the living room, she heard Yejide snort "goody-two-shoes" and starting a small argument between the two. The buzz of her phone distracted her from the petty bickering, and she saw a notification pop up. It was a message from Alexi reminding everyone of the Halloween party. The party was the only reason why she wasn't already in her bed along with all four of her animals binging scary movies on Netflix. It was also the only reason why she had ever bothered herself with getting a wig since she wasn't interested in straightening and temporarily dyeing her own hair.

"Alexi messaged the groupchat about the party. I guess we should get going now," Usha commented while she moved to the front door to grab her coat and boots. She didn't get cold easily, but covering up would make her commute much easier than walking about in full costume. There was also that weird-ass on the first floor who was constantly trying to talk to her. Thankfully, working from home meant that she rarely ever needed to leave her house. And the age of delivery especially meant that she rarely ever left her house. Having three cats and a fennec fox made her an extreme homebody on top of the fact.

Somehow, despite being home most of the time, she still finished pieces practically last minute. One would say it was procrastination, but honestly, Usha just liked making some of her recent clientele wait because they were just that annoying. Worse was the number of specific details they wanted in whatever the hell they were ordering. As she pulled on her shoes, hoping C.J was behind her and ready to head out, she noted the two 4 by 4s that was due in two days. She'd get to that... eventually.

"Alright let's head the fuck out," she sighed whilst pulling open her door. Before stepping out of the frame, she turned into her apartment and called out to her animals. "Bye everyone! If I don't get drunk and pass out, I'll be back tonight! Tell Enitan!"

"Probably gonna happen, was the singular response from Ide just before she closed the door.

prob not my best work idk

Eliana Sousa

Last one. She smiled softly through the slim bars of the last kennel. The tabby cat within was curled comfortably on the towel she had given him and he had bundled up in the corner. He didn't open his eyes, flicking his ears in acknowledgement to her presence. She made a quick visual inspection of his cage: clean and cozy. Good. Deeming the kennel's and it's resident's states satisfactory, she nodded to herself and left the feline in peace. On her way out, she called out "goodnight" and got pleasant responses from those still awake.

As she walked through the door of Feline Furr-adise, the section of the sanctuary devoted to cats, her phone chimed, informing her she had a text message. She ignored it. Checking off her mental to-do list before closing up for the night was very important to her. Supplies are sufficient. The dog and cat kennels are cleaned and locked. Their residents are content. Liz should be in the lobby...

In the lobby, Liz waited patiently for Ella by the counter, petting Piper. Ella approached the blonde with a warm smile—the tenants of Second Chance Rescue owed their superb medical care to the vet before her. She glanced at the fun Dollar Store decorations celebrating Halloween, smiling at the memory of a certain St. Bernard mix's sulky mood toward being dressed up as a wizard. He ended up with a loving family wanting to meet him again this upcoming weekend. Which reminds me... Ella addressed the woman quickly before she headed home: "Gonna need to move Benji's appointment to about three, Liz, is that alright?" The veterinarian responded with an "I'll let you know" and left with a nod.

Piper stood on her rear paws, asking, "Okay, can we go home now?" Ella nodded. "Yes." She had not forgotten the text and pulled the flip phone from its clip on her belt loop to check the ID. She flipped the phone open one-handedly to read the reminder of a Halloween party by "Alexinho" and smiled. "Better get going. I got a party to get to." With that, she picked up her satchel and Piper's leash and left the rescue. Everything's locked. Check.

Piper practically dragged Ella home because she wanted to try on her costume As soon as she walked through the door of her townhouse, she got to her Halloween night plans. First stop: the spoiled brats she called her babies. Lucky in his NASA rocket engine backpack, Piper as Minnie Mouse (she had such a girly side), a moody Pebbles dressed as Frankenweenie, and fussy Echo having a Beanie Babies tag attached to his collar. "I wish you would've worn the Mad Hatter hat," Ella muttered wistfully as she pulled his muzzle away from the heart-shaped tag.

Next stop was her own costume: the creepy-looking Tim Burton Cheshire Cat. As she put on the ears, she tipped her head to the right to contemplate the hair extension clips she'd bought. After a lot of thought, she put them in, turning her brown locks black with blue stripes. With some difficulty, she pulled off a messy braid down the back of her head and pulled over her shoulder. She walked out to oohs and ahhs from her fur-children.

"Remember, no barking at the little kids—Lucky." "Yeah, yeah, I get it," Lucky replied, pairing the assurance with an eye roll that brightened up real quick. "I can bark at the older kids though, right? The really old kids?" Ella drew a deep breath and looked around the room; Pebbles was dozing on the rug. "Fine." She gave Piper a pointed look that meant "you're in charge." She grabbed Echo around the middle, said her good-byes and final reminders to be good, and drove to Alexi and Seb's apartment.

By the time she got there, she was trying so very hard to contain her agitation at Echo asking "are we there yet" every time the car stopped. She spotted a familiar blur pass the car when she put it in park and killed it. "We're here." She turned around, reaching to unbuckle his seat belt. "I expect you to be on your best behavior, Pequeno." He smiled at her the way dogs always seemed to do, assuring her quietly that he would be. She opened the car door and surprised him by simultaneously whipping off the Beanie Baby tag and attaching a miniature hat to his head. "C'mon!!" She ignored the protests, but the price for the hat trick was his refusing to walk. She relented just this once, carrying his whining, wriggling butt into the building.
