[ among the wildflowers - open ]
« on: March 12, 2019, 09:24:11 AM »

a lot had happened over the course of a few months. too much had happened, honestly, for wyn to even want to go over all that had occurred. it had been a long and winding road, and a journey that the blonde wasn’t too keen to revisit, either.. he’d faced a lot of heartbreak and sadness in his time, too much to really want or need to delve into. he was an overton; did he really need to explain his story for people to already know it was full of sadness and heartbreak? his gaze settled on the rushing water of the stream, just barely out of reach of the water’s edge. sure, a lot had happened-- but, all in all, at least it had caused the overton brothers to find this beautiful prairie (well, beautiful to wynter, at least).

he sat comfortably near the river’s edge, absently picking out a few flowers nearby and weaving them absently. it’d become a rather beautiful flower crown. flower crowns, arguably the only thing wyn was all that good at making, and the only thing he really did in his free-time. with nicer weather slowly approaching, he decided he might as well make the best out of it. it definitely did beat just sitting around the trailer park. he gazed at his finished product, surveying it carefully. perfect. gently, he placed it down beside him before started a new one.

he supposed he could hand them out to newcomers as they came by. perhaps the crowns would give him an excuse to interact with a few of the newcomers, seeing as socializing wasn’t exactly his strong suit. sy had already told him that he was a sort of second-in-command; might as well start to try and act like it… by making flower crowns…

The Overtons had endured lamentable hardship over the past several months. It almost seemed as if God was giving them one bitch slap after the next as karma for the transgressions under the Overton name. Silas was just as much to blame, though he'd sure as hell place all of the blame for the wrongdoing of his damn wicked parents. The stupid fucks, they were... Selfish, selfish, selfish. Ever since the Overton siblings went on their way into the treacherous New World, it seemed as if one mistake after the next was made; honestly, to Silas, he was surprised that they were going as strong as they were. They'd seen enough hell on earth that the idea of eternal damnation was more like a memory to him than a fear for the future.

And so, it genuinely was a surprise for Wynter and Silas to not only manage to survive whilst their other siblings appeared to fall off the face of earth, but also manage to thrive in a community of their own. They were turning things around. The Damned to the Absolved. They could start a new life here - Silas was sure of it. Hands rested on his hips as he watched curiously from a distance. His little brother sat on the bank of the river. This was what kept Silas going. He wanted to smile, yet his features remained stoic. He would survive for his family; they were what kept him going. Silas would protect Wynnie with his very last breath if he had to. The man was too virtuous to encounter the heinous life that came with trying to survive. The life where Silas would have to kill to keep his brother safe from harm. Silas could never mention the unspeakable to Wyn. Instead, he'd do everything in his power to shield his family from the grim misfortune that was life in the New World.

"Go check out what Uncle Wyn is up to, hey?" Silas nudged James forward, the young child peering up as his father before clumsily dogtrotting over to his uncle. The young blond boy lowered himself onto his knees as he slowed to a stop beside his uncle, curiously examining the flower crown that Wyn had made. "What is this?" He squeaked, eyebrows furrowed with an inquisitive gleam in his eyes before he peered over at Wyn.

the new world wasn’t all sunshine and roses. but then again, wyn had never really known anything outside of it. to him, a day like this was all sunshine and roses. he’d been born in the beginning of these grim times, and never truly experienced what it truly meant to live in a world of happiness. so, instead, he went about making the world his version of happiness. while it definitely had its moments - his parents, and then colton, jace, violet... - he could at least try and make the most out of it. so flower crowns, it was.

“what is this?”

something about james, though, definitely made the world a little bit brighter of a place. he’d noticed the kid trotting over way before the question, but his gaze hadn’t wandered over to the young boy until the simple question had been asked. as he observed the flower crown the blonde had set to his side, he couldn’t help but smile to himself. “oh, that’s a flower crown,” he explained, gently picking it up for the other to observe. “you’re supposed to wear it on your head- like this,” and with that, he gently placed the flower crown on top of the young boy’s head- and honestly james looked so cute wyn swore his heart was going to explode. “look at yourself in the reflection of the water. it looks good on you.”

Don't ever tell me
to smile
She'll make you curse, but she a blessing
It was a pain in the ass to keep all five lambs inside, but she didn't want them wandering around right now. She had managed to keep the five inside, though Loomis had insisted he join her, looking upset if she told him otherwise. So the dog walked beside his spooky goth owner. Unlike his owner, Loomis seemed friendly and he was when he wasn't herding up the lambs for Paisley. So of course when he saw the Overtons he'd leave Paisley's side to go and say hello, tail wagging and nose sniffing.

Paisley rolled her eyes at Loomis, walking over after her herding dog. "Loomis, buddy, come here" she muttered kneeling down as the dog came over, quick to lick the girl's face with his tail still wagging. When she stood up she'd awkwardly wave at the others. She didn't exactly seem like the most friendly person, but the twenty-year-old was definitely a don't judge a book by it's cover.

"Those are pretty" she commented, slightly pointing towards the flower crowns Wynter had made. You probably couldn't tell, but wild flowers were one of her favorite things. They make her smile, sometimes. A smiling Paisley was definitely a rarity. Loomis went back over to say hello again, causing her to sigh and shake her head. He was worse about bothering people than the five lambs that usually followed her around.

"Loomis, leave them alone. Not everyone wants to pet you."

James' eyes lit up at the very mention of the word 'crown', the young child sat back on his haunches as he leaned over to poke mindlessly at the water gently trickling down the river. He paused, china blue gaze peering up over to his uncle before he knelt with his knees in the mud, fidgety and enthusiastic as Wynter picked the flower crown up, explaining what was supposed to be done with the crown. And then, it was placed slowly on J's head, a toothy grin forming on his lips as he quickly leaned forwards to peer into the water. Eyes widened and he began to giggle, thrilled with his new look, before he sat back and poked gently at Wynter's arm. "I'm the king of the castle, and you're the dirty rascal!" He sung lightheartedly and out-of-tune, an innocent grin riddling across his lips.

Of course, his father more than likely taught him to say such a thing. It would be no surprise to most if Silas had said that to James at one point. He stood a distance away, arms folded across his chest and smiling gently to himself at the way his son was so exuberant and theatrical in his ways. Warm eyes then shot over towards the sight of a dog dashing over excitedly, followed by Paisley. Silas was still for one last moment before choosing to rock up too, wandering over nonchalantly. As he arrived, he huffed under his breath with amusement as James had turned to pet Loomis, the young boy absolutely fascinated by the hound.

"Nah, he's good." Silas mumbled in response to Paisley talking to the dog, carding his fingers through his hair. "M'boy would pet yours all day if he could. He's wanted a dog of his own for the longest time." He explained gruffly before turning to peer over at Wynter. "Whatcha doin' 'ere, Wynnie?" He asked, half-listening to how James babbled quietly to Loomis as he ran his small fingers through the dog's coat.

wynter had always dreamed of kids of his own. as james’s eyes lit up, absolutely ecstatic, he decided that being an uncle was definitely better than anything else he’d dreamed of. he couldn’t help but laugh quietly to himself as the kid giggled at the look of the flower crown atop of their head. with a kid being a kid, wyn doubted james would be as enthusiastic about it in five minutes as he was now. always moving on to the next big thing. little james sat back, poking at wyn’s arm and- “who taught you that?” he couldn’t help but laugh, sneaking a hand to briefly tickle the child’s side.

just like wyn had predicted, though, james was on to the next best thing- a very adorable and beautiful dog. ah, who could blame him? whenever wyn had free time, he was usually over taking care of summer, his donkey - who absolutely loved the ranch; a happy summer called for a happy wynter. he simply smiled softly to himself as he went back to work on the crowns, only derailing from the project as silas asked what he was up to. “oh- making flower crowns for everybody,” he answered, sheepish, as if it wasn’t the absolute best idea in the world. wyn thought it was an amazing idea, but others could beg to differ.

“want one?” he asked his brother, hesitating a moment before getting up the nerve - introvert at best - to ask paisley, “would you want one, too?” he’d decided to give them to everyone; might as well start with everyone here while he had the chance.

"He's more than welcome to. Trust me, Loomis won't say no to all that attention" she sighed, watching the duo in question quite amused though she didn't show it. The canine adored attention from anyone, so of course he'd be happy to stay with the boy as long as he was allowed. Though it didn't stop Paisley from being worried about him bothering people, to her he was a bit too friendly.

“would you want one, too?” she looked at Wynter, a bit surprised he spoke to her. At first she didn't think he was, but she was the only other person he could be asking. It didn't wipe any surprise from her face however. "Oh, um. Sure...thanks" She always sounded much more friendly than she looked, almost like Loomis was the friendly piece of her. Of course the dog would still be on her mind, her eyes constantly darting to him and the boy "Be nice, Loomis" she warned, though the dog was being nothing but sweet.
