//tw for injuries

It was plain to see, just looking at him, that Michael was in bad shape. There was the incredibly black eye, of course, that almost masked the bags. Even the way he moved, devoid of any energy, lent to the beaten and tired thing he had going on. His companion, at least, was in a bit better shape, Eddie wasn't hurt like he was. There was a somber mood settled over them, however, as if the exhaustion and injuries weren't bad enough, there was the reality of a situation Michael still couldn't bring himself to acknowledge with words.

At least they had finally arrived in Springfield. Now maybe he could get some rest, though he doubted he'd actually manage to sleep.

— The past few days had been hard on Michael, Eddie had to admit. Sure, Ed wasn't particularly fond of the younger man, yet he still felt a hint of grief for him. After all, if there was one thing that Michael and Edmund had in common, it was that family was everything. Of course Ed would accompany Michael in finding his brother,  but never did he expect the turn of events to be so... Violent. Eddie didn't want to step in, only willing to do so if Michael's life was at risk, and so he watched as Michael's mother grew hostile towards Michael turning up.

It was sad, really. Michael's intentions had been good.

And now, empty handed, the two men wandered across the land, defeated and sorrowful, as they made their way towards neutral territory: Springfield. A place for Michael to stay so that his mother wouldn't follow him back to Flintlock, and a place Eddie could feel certain would protect Michael until he could come home. After all, Ed only had good intentions. All he wanted was to make sure Blake's friend got home safe. He slowed as the pair of them reached Springfield, Eddie slow to release a sigh before questioning softly, "Is this the place?" God, he needed some place to rest.

anton could understand that, he could understand that familial loyalty. his brothers, when they'd been alive, he would have taken a bullet for them. even grayson, the oldest and the most fucked up of the carmichael boys, even at his worst, anton would have risked everything for them. and now they were gone. they were gone, and the last piece of family he had was in fletcher, and though he loved his niece, he didn't love her passions. she'd gotten all the proper training to work as a nurse, but her interests lingered in punching things. she was good at that, at punching problems until they stopped being problems, but anton knew it'd be the death of her one day, and truth be told, he wasn't sure he could live without her. nineteen years old, and she didn't realize just yet how much he'd been there for her, forcing her parents to get clean, raising her when no one else could.

they'd been walking, side by side, mumbling about holidays and future plans, their annual fourth of july firework show and memories of a time from long before, when things were simpler, when their eyes found the pair, and they both sped up, albeit for different reasons. anton, seeing someone injured and wanting to help; fletcher, seeing someone injured and wanting to ensure the attacker wasn't nearby.

❝who did this?❞ fletcher demanded, eyes narrowed in a squint at the men, looking nothing like the legacy of springfield. she wasn't soft and kind, no healer; her body was littered with small scars, a gun situated on her hip, features wary. she had the look of a fighter to her.

❝i think what she means to say,❞ anton corrected, shooting his niece a disapproving look that she didn't even bother rolling her eyes at, ❝is please come in, we can fix you up. but, uh, knowing what happened could be helpful for the guards.❞ he rounded out, and this time fletcher did, in fact, roll her eyes.

reminded that, yes, they were, in fact, a hospital, fletchers eyes shifted firmly to the younger of the men, a scrawny boy about her age, looking beaten half to death. ❝can you walk?❞ she prompted, lips pressing into a frown. ❝or do you need me to carry you?❞ it would not, in fact, be the first time she'd had to hoist a relatively grown man over her shoulder and into the hospital.
make the same mistake, blame circumstance
