AND WE CAN'T HAVE YOU LIVING A LIE
It was fucking cold; compared to the warming beaches and sun-baked concrete streets of the Badlands, Flintlock's version of "spring" was basically just Winter: Warmer Edition. But still he rode on his little fluffy mare through the snow-crystallized mountain landscape, slowly but surely approaching his destination.

Soon he saw the Lodge in the distance, and he slowed his approach to a frustrating crawl. He didn't try to be quiet, he encouraged his mare to step on as many twigs as she wanted and started whistling a cheery tune; he didn't want to freak out the poor Lodge residents by stealthily inserting himself into their midst.

He wasn't coming here to fight, as evidenced by the fact he hadn't brought any other Badlanders with him. Not that he'd come unarmed - scimitar, wound whip and six-shot revolver on his hip showed he was plenty armed - but he couldn't be expected to go into the mountains without ways of defending himself.

fred would be a liar if he said that his first trip to flintlock hadn’t bothered him. then again, fred wasn’t exactly the most honest of men out there. his toes felt like they were freezing, his cheeks stung from wind burn. though he also didn’t come striding in on a mare, slowly making his way toward the lodge while humming some ill-fitting tune. he raised his brows before slowly deciding to approach. he liked to think his entrance had a bit more flair.

he stepped away from the lodge and closer towards the newcomer, saying into his walkie-talkie. “stranger heading towards the lodge.” how many times had people heard that announcement this week? eyes wandered over towards the stranger.

“you sound a bit pitchy, if you ask me,” he remarked as he stepped closer, the grin on his lips making the words come across more lighthearted. who was he to critique some absent whistling? eyes wandered towards the man’s armed weaponry, briefly lingering before looking back up. “what brings you here?”

The last that Eddie had heard from the Badlands, Catalyst had been their unwavering leader. Honestly, Ed wasn’t sure how much Cat actually enjoyed his company on a personal level - seemingly preferring the likes of Hayley instead of a man like Eddie - but this wasn’t about any personal relations, was it? There’d been a positive stance between Flintlock Lodge and the Badlands for some time now, and Eddie wasn’t prepared to change how the two groups perceived each other.

With Freddie’s voice sounding in his walkie-talkie, Eddie uttered confirmation before beginning to make his way over, rifle slung comfortably over his shoulder as he slowed to a halt beside his cousin. He’d seen this person around before, namely in the Badlands for the sparring session. Eddie peered up at the man from where he sat on top of his horse, blue eyes unwavering from the man. He decided to not repeat Freddie’s question, instead standing silently beside his cousin whilst he waited for the Badlander to talk.

Flair was what Salem specialized in, but not right now. Flair was for people he wanted to annoy and frustrate; not for people who'd been the allies of the Badlands since before Salem even washed ashore.

He stopped his whistling at the Lodger's comment, the tune breaking into scratchy, barking laughter. Scanning the stranger, he offered a grin of his own to match the other man's and pulled back on the reins to halt the mare's movement.

"Never been much of a whistler, so I guess it makes sense," Salem commented, scratching behind the mare's ear. She was ornery, lazy and slow but it sure beat climbing the mountain on foot. His gaze turned towards a more familiar figure; He recalled seeing the man at the sparring session as part of the flock of Lodgers that went.

"Suppose I should explain myself. I'm Salem and I come with news from the Badlands; Catalyst is out, gone in the night. I'm the new Top Dog now," Blunt and precise; he didn't need to mince words on this one, he'd specifically come with the goal in mind of letting Flintlock know about the leader change.

"I wanted to share the news, and reaffirm the Badlands and Flintlock's alliance as well as negotiate some other things. Mind if we go inside for that part? It's freezing out here and I'm a warm weather kinda guy," He shifted on the saddle as the cold bit uncomfortably through his coat

if only the man knew how much his barking laughter just egged frederick on. standing there proud and with a beaming grin, he laughed softly at the man’s contagious amusement. the casual conversation was enough for his eyes to gleam, welcoming. he liked this guy. why wasn’t there more of this easy conversation where fred came from? he decided not to continue going on for attention, though, and simply let the man speak.

ah. so this was the new face of the badlands? eyes turned over to see eddie’s reaction to the news; the leader was the one who was most knowledgeable about the politics of it all. politics had seemed too boring for freddie at the time. now he wished he’d found himself as the master of all things political for the group.

deciding to admit when he wasn’t that important a piece of a meeting, he gestured towards the mare. “i could take her to the stable for you, if you wanted. so you two can discuss things in the lodge.” wasn’t that such a mature thing for the man to offer, if he said so himself. guess he wasn't just constant energy and amusement at all times -- there was a more serious side every once in a blue moon.
