who was mia carlisle?

that was a question she didn't even think she could answer herself.

ever since she was a child she had been so fascinated with hearing about various characters in different movies and books. her family never really had much when she was young, so often times she would be forced to use her imagination to have fun around the house, discovering she was actually quite creative when it came to entertaining herself. soon enough, she decided to use it in her favor and make up characters to play for herself, if mia wasn't who she wanted to be, why limit herself when she can be whoever she wanted?

she could tell you all about poppy dayton or maggie halstead and all of their little quirks, but it had been so long since she took of the masks of who she wanted to be. what if it was too late to simply just be mia? did she even really want to be?

it had been so long of her creating these personas with no one catching her in the act. that was until bluestem prairie. she grew tired of being grace, so she decided to move to a new place and settled into the role of maggie. it was fine at first, until she ran into the face of someone who knew her as someone else. frank didn't give her away, only confronting her when it was the two of them. frank was one of the first people she was honest with, even if it had only been a ghost of the real truth.

it felt like a weird weight was lifted off of her shoulders, freeing her in a way she didn't know she needed. though, telling frank only led to her having one person stuck on her mind every day after - eddie.

she hadn't seen him since she was eighteen when she had left. if there was one person where she would actually tell the full truth to, it would have been him. even though they were just teenagers when they knew each other, there had always been a deep connection she felt with him, which was part of the reason she ran off without saying goodbye to their friend group in the first place. it wasn't long before she asked frank about the whereabouts of his brother, deciding shortly after to make the trip up toe flintlock lodge to see him. this was it. she was going to be mia.

stopping around the small little mountainside village, she held cheerio in her arms as she cleared her throat uncomfortably and looked around until she saw one of the flintlockers. "i'm looking for eddie." she said simply when she was asked what her business there was, brown eyes shifting around nervously.

She didn't like events like this, not anymore. After learning about the war with Bluestem and not hearing otherwise, she had come to the conclusion she was an orphan. After all, the last place she knew any of her siblings to be was Bluestem and she had been at the fight, actually, and never saw them so she assumed the worst. So now she just wasn't a fan of the more calm and cheerful events, but that didn't stop her from attending them clearly.

Maddie was by herself, laying on her back just staring at the sky. It reminded her how boring she thought cloud watching was, but she had nothing better to do and hadn't really cared enough to try and make friends again. She eventually would sit up, running her fingers through her hair as if to make sure nothing got in it as she looked around for something to do. Or someone to talk to...no, something to do. Talking was something she did too much of but she just didn't know anyone here enough to talk to them.

"Damn, there really isn't anyone who seems even mildly entertaining" she muttered to herself, looking around at the other members of the group. Well, members of the group. One reason she never stayed around in any group was she never felt like she was a part of said group. Plus Maddie just didn't like staying in one place for too long...it got boring.

She was sitting outside, letting the bigger four play outside with Xena slept. She had asked that if Cade heard her crying to come get her since he chose to stay in which was fine with her. Tommy and Lottie knew to stay where she could see them, so most of the time it was her having to go get their brothers who would crawl away. They had taken a few steps, though none on their own.

She looked up hearing someone fall, seeing it had been Lottie "Fuck" she muttered, getting up until she saw that she was fine. The tumble not seeming to phase the girl any. "'uck" Blake froze, that wasn't Lottie's voice. She looked over at the boys, they were the only other ones who could've said it. Which one she didn't know, though when it was repeated by not just one but both of them, she sat down and immediately put her face in her hands. This was Alfie's fault, she didn't know how but she felt that it was. That this was him continuing to be a pain in her ass even after death.

"Really? Both of you?" She asked, looking over at the twins again who were just smiling at her. They seemed fairly proud of themselves for saying their first word and though she was too, why did it have to be that?

Flintlock Lodge / Re: ease my mind — birthday party , open .
« Last post by blake k. on May 07, 2021, 03:06:58 PM »
She had helped set up the party of course, but now she was put back in the role of watching her three youngest. Xena of course was held while the other two sat on the ground each destroying a piece of cake. She watched Lottie run around with a matchbox thanking people for coming, which just made her smile though she was keeping an eye on her due to the matches.

Although with Blake, came that mom-voice that little kids always seemed to listen to whether it was their mom or not. Blake found it handy. "Ezekiel, give those to Torrin." she said it sternly as if to say she meant it and there would be consequences otherwise. What would they be? Nothing too bad, maybe just no cake or an early bedtime, whatever Torrin wanted. But she didn't want either of them walking around with matches.

"Lottie, love, walking feet please. I don't want you getting hurt" she added afterward, watching her daughter zoom around the lounge. Her eyes then looked to her twin boys, completely covered in their cake that just caused the Australian to sigh heavily...they were definitely going to need baths. She was just glad Xena was still small enough to just sleep, one less toddler to worry about.

Northstar District / Re: EVEN IF I COULD // open, raid
« Last post by paige m. on May 07, 2021, 02:33:37 PM »
She had left Felicity in the care of an NPC, needing some time for herself and now that her daughter was one she felt a bit better about leaving her with others. Due to her past, she usually had her weapons of choice on her and due to the previous raids, she usually had two dogs with her and left two with Felicity. She had Atlas and August with her, which once she stepped onto the scene was probably a good thing. Atlas was protective of Paige and August was the most vicious when he was allowed to be.

"Glad to see the Badlands have gone downhill since I left” she commented, her brand on display with her choice of a tank top. She doubted they did those anymore but it showed her loyalty to her found family nonetheless, so she wasn't ashamed of it. Paige was never one to feel intimidated by being outnumbered, it came with the territory of being on her own for so long growing up. As did her reaction to one of them go for their gun, she grabbed her crossbow and held it, as if to show they weren't the only ones armed.

"So what you guys like taking the easy way out now? What a bunch of fuckin' pussies” she laughed before a badlander npc seemed to want to go towards her but she heard both dogs growl and seeing as they both at least looked like wolves, they seemed to back him off. She glanced over to Nemo, watching him get sent to the ground "August” she muttered, sending the northern inuit over to stand between the badlander and the boy with his dog. "You're just upset because he's right. Though I see your parents never taught you to not hit kids - or teens” she knew being called a kid as a teen when she was one was not the move, so she tagged it on for Nemo's sake. But her point still stood.

She had no authority, no rank of importance, but she'd be damned if she let them take advantage of Green's kindness. "She's not your friend, Green. If anything she's using you” she frowned, this was probably the angriest she had been in a while but if she was taught anything from her old group is that anger can be used for your benefit. "If you're using up supplies so damn quickly maybe rethink what you're doing. Jesus Christ, maybe think about raiding a bigger group who would have more supplies for you since you fucks don't seem to know how to ration...or you just don't know what that even means”

Northstar District / won't go down easy — target practice , open .
« Last post by GREEN. on May 07, 2021, 10:01:15 AM »
People can do a lot worse things than kill you.

Feet were rooted to the earth, and the look in his eyes was bitter. Angry. It wasn’t clear who was to blame for the emotion; was it the disgust of The Badlands greedy ways, or was it the disgust in himself for being too powerless to stop them? Green understood when to fight and when to step down, but how could he yield to The Badlands’ ambitions time after time again? Preventing a skirmish in the District could benefit the Northerners in the here and now whilst The Badlands were raiding, but leaving Northerners entirely empty-handed for the days and weeks to come did them no justice at all. It only prolonged the suffering.

Lip quivered, a look of focus in his gaze, and then he released. The arrow whirred through the air, penetrating the trunk of the tree just outside of the District’s city walls. Each nearby tree was revealed to have targets painted on the trunks for the increasingly frequent target practice that Green had been abiding by daily. This was the new normal again, the primal desire to survive rather than to live in harmony. Whilst Green could desperately try to replicate a safe haven in Northstar District, no amount of integrity and righteousness could withstand the powers of immorality. Green could not understand how The Badlands could kick Northstar District when they were already down, steal from the poor and leave the vulnerable for dead.

Green wanted to do something about it, anything to right the wrongs here in the District. And so, he’d do what he knew best. Drawing his bow, he aimed with three arrows with his draw hand, firing in quick succession one after the next until three bullseyes were struck by an arrow. Nostrils flared, gaze darting across his wordless victory, before continuing to practice his archery. He’d do so until the time was right.

After all, even a worm would turn.

Northstar District / Re: EVEN IF I COULD // open, raid
« Last post by NEMO. on May 07, 2021, 12:48:16 AM »
Nemo likes it here.

It's not much, and frankly, it's quite depressing. The population is fleeting, individuals barely making it from day to day. It should be enough to drive anyone away, but not Nemo. Where there were cons, there was mostly certainly pros. The community, despite their struggle, was strong. That came together, comforted each other despite their hardships, and made best with what they got. He could tell that Green was a good guy, and that he was trying. It was something that anyone should admire, and that wasn't lost on the teenager.

Nemo is trekking back from the beach , Shithead trotting by his side when he hears the commotion. His eyes flutter towards the warehouse , and although he knows it may be smart to ignore him, he's seldom been that lately. The boy wanders further to investigate and if he didn't know better, he'd think that this was some dispute between Northerners, but he does know better. He's heard about these no-good assholes, taking advantage of Green's kindness— taking their goods , sources— it's all that he ever seems to hear about. But now he sees them in the flesh, sauntering in the warehouse as if they own the place.

It would have been a good time to be quiet. Although he brandished a weapon, a pistol wasn't gonna get him too far. These guys had weapons out of the wazoo, something in which Northstar obviously lacked. But time away from others , with nothing but an wacky old man and his dog with-no-discernible name him a little restless, and his restless frankly made him reckless. "Oh , damn! I didn't realize these lazy sack of shit were coming here I would have been sure to grab a gift basket!" Nemo says upon approaching , hands placed on his hips. "Making any other stops along the way, or is this the only group you like to bully?" He wanted to take one for the team. Wanted Green to feel less bad about a situation he couldn't control. Only, he'd learn his lesson on why he chose talking shit behind their back.

Before he had time to even react, an npc Badlander takes their gun and rams it into his face, knocking him off his feet. "Green, you ever teach your kids how to shut the fuck up?" This would have been the perfect time for Shithead to be useful and attack,  but he doesn't. Instead he goes for Nemo, beginning to cover his face in a series of licks, making it hard to decipher if what was dripping from his eye drool or blood.

when beatrice heard there'd been an event, she hadn't realized it'd be this.

the hotel lobby wasn't really a place to frequented. she liked to be a social setting, sure. observe others from afar, wonder on whether tonight would be the night she'd feel confident enough to approach them, but that'd been before flintlock. at flintlock, her excitement derived from being able to get ready with maxine , reassuring her about eddie while simultaneously hoping she'll catch the leader's attention. at flintlock, it was so familial that children were nearly unavoidable, and so beatrice seems to melt into the setting almost naturally. flintlock's events were relatively tame in comparison to what were badlands, and they were something she both hated and adored. and she melted, sure, but in a way that just dispersed within three seconds.

there would need to be as many helping hands as possible for this party, so beatrice decides to make her way to the hotel lobby to see what she could assist with , and maybe to get the scope on what exactly it'd be for. already, the building is buzzing with activity, and she's able to spot michael and salem within the crowd. salem seems to already picked a task , so beatrice decides she'd bother her later. but micheal , on the other hand , stands by his lonesome with that look he almost seems to have. the one that makes her wonder if she should bother in the first place. bea decides to put that on the maybe list, too, and instead makes a beeline for the nearest npc to further inquire on the event taking place , grabbing a decoration as she does so. "hey, what are we celebrating?"

as if on cue, teddy bursts through the door and the room just seems to . . . light up. she doesn't think she's ever seen anything like it in real life. often , these kind of men only exist in books. they're brash and full of themselves and demand attention , and somehow , everyone just loves them for that. npc doesn't have to tell her what this event is for because everyone makes it quite clear: it's teddy's twenty-ninth birthday. penny , salem , and kiki greet him and kiss his butt as if he deserves it. even her father wants to talk to him. what about? he's a golden boy in it's worst form; such a superficial thing that shouldn't bother beatrice but it does. it's odd to be so bitter about it. he's hurt her father , and that should be reason enough. but apart of her can't help but feel envy , too. something that she is unwilling to admit to herself even now. instead , she puts down the decorations, unaware that npc holds their hand waiting for her to take it, and makes her way over towards michael, hoping to push him further.

"i didn't think anyone could be so full of themselves like that," beatrice jokes halfheartedly , tilting her head. "but I guess I was wrong." her eyes follow teddy briefly before she glances at michael , absentmindedly leaning back on her heels. "um , how are you doing?"
