and you'll blow us all away [open, joining!]

there was something refreshing, sweet almost, about the approaching spring. the treacherous winter mountains were melting into something that looked like a part in a painting. spring was usually a time of rebirth, refreshment, and generally, new beginnings. though cesare tried hard to view his situation this way, he couldn't help but feel the weight of the dirt of his intentions. his reasons for coming to flintlock lodge were shady, but he would never actually admit that to anyone.

the trip from bluestem prairie was generally pleasant, and cesare credited much of that to the weather and improving traveling conditions. as he approached the main gates of flintlock lodge, he swallowed nervously. he wasn't good at holding up appearances, but something told him the war between the two territories would be a good reason to maintain his character of valor, honor, and integrity. deep down, he was brave and true, but recent events seemed to cloud his judgment, or rather- his loyalty. so now, he wandered the forest, leaving behind a life of reputations and expectations, and entered a new one of his own making.
watching every motion in my foolish lover's game ———
on this endless ocean, finally lovers know no shame ———
turning and returning to some secret place inside ———
watching in slow motion as you turn around and say ———
take my breath away ————————

Following the hostility from Bluestem Prairie, Eddie would refuse to offer any refuge to someone who had pledged loyalty to the good-for-nothing lawless bastards. At least for the most part. If Franklin were to return to Flintlock Lodge, for example, on his knees begging for redemption, Eddie would welcome him in begrudgingly. He’d done many things to prove his faithlessness, not only to Flintlock Lodge but also to his family and the entire oath that was otherwise obeyed scrupulously by the Stirling family.

He’d given Eddie so many reasons to despise him and refuse to ever offer him protection again, but Eddie could never be that vicious to him. After all, Eddie was good to his family. Forgiveness was oftentimes a bitter pill to swallow when one had been wronged so many times, but he tried when it came to people that he thought mattered in his life.

Otherwise, he’d never knowingly welcome someone who’d arrived from within the darkness of the prairie. Someone like Cesare should never have been welcomed in, but oftentimes it was impossible to do any sort of background check on every newcomer. It was simply unreasonable for Eddie to maintain on his own. But, it did not mean he’d offer an openness to all newcomers instantly. Eddie never trusted people, but he could grow to like someone over time. Just enough for his paranoia to settle.

Slightly narrowed eyes observed a man wandering the woods as Eddie smoked a newly lit cigarette. Toe tapped mindlessly in his boot as he took in the man’s features before stalking after him quietly. ❝ You understand that this is Flintlock territory, ‘ey? ❞ He questioned as he stood a distance away, cigarette pinched between fingertips whilst he shifted his arm to seek comfort from the heaviness of the rifle slung across his shoulder. ❝ Who are you? ❞

With the coming spring, Ezra had been trekking through the woods establishing places in his mind he could look to for gathering various plants that grew wild, as well as tracks that he knew would indicate burrows of the animals as they emerged. He wasn't much for the big crowds of the main lodge, often he'd spend as little times in the hustle and bustle of the group as he could. Frequent trips throughout the territory were a part of his routine, as were supply drops with the animals and other such necessities that the lodge would need to continue to sustain itself. He cared little for the ins and outs of how everyone interacted and all the big what-dos people got into. As he'd thought to himself many times, he'd much rather be out in the woods where he knew and understood all the natural laws than the subtle intricacies of keeping up a friendly conversation.
That didn't stop him from being nosy, of course, as he heard the trail end of a few sentences through the surrounding trees. The voice seemed a little gruff, straight-forward. Probably wouldn't want to just pop out of the woods, that seemed like a bad idea. For now, he'd listen, but it was likely he'd become bored and continue wandering the footpaths only visible inside his head.
Souls are fragile. Be wary of the words spilling from your mouth.

— Colt often took walks near the border to get his mind off of things - and frankly, there was quite a bit that he wanted to get his mind off of the past few days. That being said, he'd found himself near the border quite a bit, whether it be on a patrol or by himself. This time, he had been on a walk, alone, occasionally checking traps to see if they'd caught anything, when a voice caught his attention.

He would follow Edmund's voice, swallowing down the usual heavy feeling of guilt that he felt when looking upon the leader, keeping his expression neutral as he appeared from behind some trees. His gaze flitted over to Cesare, whom he had never seen before - though he somehow felt familiar. The young man blinked; had he seen this guy before? His heart dropped - he wasn't a merc, was he...? No. He didn't look like he was from the Ring. Still, he couldn't shake the feeling...

Colt cleared his throat, giving his head a little shake. Maybe he was just being paranoid. The whole situation with Xavier was throwing him off his game. He needed to get his thoughts together. He gave a slight nod. "Yeah, what Eddie said. You got any weapons on you?" Couldn't be too careful - ironically enough.
