the gaps in the broken window shades had welcomed streams of bright sunlight into the unlit cabin. it was early in the afternoon, an unusual time for the group of friends to be up due to their long nights of hunting from dusk until dawn. while most mornings and afternoons were dedicated to resting, the group had decided to hold a meeting to discuss plans with the latest survivors that they had lured into the dark depths of the forest for their favorite game to play together.

rosie had been curled up on the couch while she used her jacket as a blanket to shield herself from the drifts that moved through the cabin as winter approached. it had been months since she remembered getting a good night of sleep. her head was an entirely loud place to be, a chorus of guilts and insecurities filling every thought she had when things went quiet. she was trying to figure out how to live with herself after everything she had been roped into doing. there was a certain peace that came along with being the first one in the cabin, the air might have been cold, but she had always preferred the cold and there was an odd feeling of calmness when the others were off doing their own thing. it helped her relax, momentarily relieving rosie of the stress of game.

with her eyelids getting heavy, rosie was about to fall asleep until the sound of the door to the cabin swung open and a large gush of wind hit her in the face and sent a shiver down a back. her eyes opened briefly while she flipped over onto her side and faced away from the door. green eyes burned holes into the cushions of the couch and rosie chewed on her lip with a sigh. she could hear whoever entered talking, but the actual words were drowned out by white noise as she tried to take in the last few minutes of quiet before the others arrived.

only a few minutes passed before everyone began to file into the cabin, if rosie had to guess she heard at least three conversations going on at once between everyone with eager laughs every few lines. she finally turned back around and sat up to allow more room for others to sit down as well, letting out a small yawn as she stretched her arms over her head. she slipped her coat back on and pulled her legs up to meet her chest, making herself as small as possible to feel a sense of security she hadn't been able to find in quite some time.

Jasper had been out scavenging in nearby neighborhoods from Ripmourne, having left Rosie earlier in the morning with a kiss goodbye. Last night he had not done much hunting, rather turning in early so he could get plenty of sleep to gather supplies for the group. But Jasper did not mind- he rather liked finding creative ways to enter old homes and gathering what he found useful to the group. This time, he had found a spare drawing journal that made him think of Levi.

He made his way back to the cabin, a long walk when weighed down with a duffel bag and a backpack full of enough supplies to hold the group over for the week or so. His eyes scanned the forest for any movement, still watchful of any survivors that may be still wandering.

Jasper seemed to be one of the last to arrive at the cabin, entering with the bags slung around him, making a beeline for the kitchen. He placed the bags on the countertop, his gaze scanning the house to find the back of a blonde head upon the couch.

”Ro, come help me with these?” He called just over the volume of the surrounding conversations.

Jasper began unzipping the bags and opening them wide. When Rosie would approach, he’d extend a hand to stroke the back of her hair and place a kiss upon her forehead in greeting.

”I found something Levi might like,” The brunette spoke in a quieter voice, taking out the journal from his backpack to offer to Rosie. ”Might be better if you gave it to him.” Levi and his relationship had likely been far too turbulent for Levi to accept a gift from Jasper without thinking it backhanded. Still, Jasper was not cold enough to ignore a perfect condition sketchbook sitting in the middle of a coffee table. He had always loved Levi’s artwork after all.
