jerome hemingway
my
quiet
mind
dissolves
at
the
thought
of
you
"saying things i don’t believe
and your love casts its shadow on the things i do
and i can hear so clearly all the words i wish i’d said
you’re stuck in my head"
HOW COULD I KNOW WHAT YOU DON'T SHOW?
surely you've had enough of always thinking you're right. . .

HISTORY
jerome was born and raised in a rich, well-off family. he and his parents lived in one of the finer districts, also one of the last places to lose electricity. there they owned a nice estate- also property that jerome wasn't allowed to leave while growing up. he received formal education through his parents' friends, who would come to their home in order to teach him. his parents taught him that it was too dangerous for the rich to go outside, else he could get mugged, hurt, or killed. because of this, he grew up to be rather sheltered and unaware of what life was like outside of his property's fence. his parents would tell him that the electricity would come back soon; all they needed to do was wait it out.

however, reflecting on it later, j would come to realize that those words were said out of denial rather than actual fact.

gangs began to form and terrorize the richer parts of the city. all the while his parents still insisted they would be okay, things would get better soon. though they would come to learn that they couldn't pretend it was perfect for forever. one night, j woke up to the sound of breaking glass. by the time he got out of bed, he could hear his parents. while he scrambled over to his door, gunshots rang out. then silence. jerome was wildly unprepared for this situation to ever occur. scared, and not sure what else to do, he fled the scene through his bedroom window. he climbed over the fence.

then, he watched from a distance a short while later as his house went up in flames.

in that instance, jerome lost everything he once had.

for the next few days, he was incredibly lost. there was nowhere he could go and nobody to turn to. then, by something jerome felt like was a twist of fate, a godsend, he ran into someone. eben viljoen. while the man was rough around the edges and dark, he was far more prepared for this new world than jerome. he was exactly who jerome needed as a friend. miraculously he was able to convince the man to let him tag along and, eventually, they became really good friends.

their relationship wasn't perfect. eben could be harsh and controlling; however, jerome just sort of took that as what friendship is about. he never had a friend before. he's slowly but surely learning he can do better but, even then, nothing would truly change their dynamic. he loves eben too much to ever think about not being his friend, anymore.

while their friendship isn't perfect - toxic, even - j feels constantly indebted to eben for coming in and practically saving him at one of his lowest points. he is incredibly fond of his friend, no matter what happens. he couldn't picture life without him.

they briefly resided in los santos before moving to bluestem prairie, where jerome is currently a member along with eben.
